  1. The morning light is breaking,
    The darkness disappears;
    The sons of earth are waking
    To penitential tears;
    Each breeze that sweeps the ocean
    Brings tidings from afar,
    Of nations in commotion,
    Prepared for Zion’s war.
  2. See heathen nations bending
    Before the God we love,
    And thousand hearts ascending
    In gratitude above;
    While sinners, now confessing,
    The gospel call obey,
    And seek the Saviour’s blessing,
    A nation in a day.
  3. Blest river of salvation,
    Pursue thine onward way;
    Flow thou to every nation,
    Nor in thy richness stay:
    Stay not till all the lowly
    Triumphant reach their home:
    Stay not till all the holy
    Proclaim, “The Lord is come.”

“Sakura*is a traditional Japanese folk song depicting spring, the season of cherry blossoms. It is often sung in international settings as a song representative of Japan…..

Lyrics translated from Japanese into English:
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
In fields, mountains and villages
As far as the eye can see.
Is it mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the rising sun.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Flowers in full bloom.

Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Across the spring sky,
As far as the eye can see.
Is it mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the air.
Come now, come now,
Let’s go and see them.”

The melody of the February Lyre Song is based on “Plaisir d’amour”, a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. The song was initially written from the perspective of a woman as “Can’t Help Falling in Love with Him”, which explains the first and third line ending on “in” rather than words rhyming with “you”.

“Can’t Help Falling in Love“, as the song came to be known, is a song written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc. Recorded by singer and actor Elvis Presley, it was part of the album Blue Hawaii (1961), the soundtrack to the movie Blue Hawaii. The song was recorded subsequently in the 1960s by Perry Como, the Lennon Sisters, Doris Day, Patti Page, Andy Williams, Al Martino and Keely Smith. In the 1970s, the song was recorded by Marty Robbins, Bob Dylan, the Stylistics, Shirley Bassey, and Engelbert Humperdinck……
